Hi Iain,

Was it actually protected, or was it an image?  These are another type of
PDF that can be difficult, but if you have Kurzweil 1000, it will usually
tackle these ones.

Having said that, it is still the case that PDF files can be protected in
such a way that they are not accessible to people using screenreaders. I
encountered one such from the Naxos music download site. I have written to
the supplier about it and am awaiting a response.

If you install the Adobe Reader i'm sure you'll find it easy to use,
its similar to reading a text file.  Some files don't read perfectly
but you should have no problems and might be pleasantly surprised at
how easy and simple it turns out to be.
