Hi GrahamI don't know for sure either Graham, but was told this by a couple of networks that if you get your phone unlocked, it invalidates the warranty. Of course, I would expect them to say this if you are wanting away from where you bought your phone originally. I do know that a network will charge you a lot more for doing it than your average bloke in a shop or market though.
It's one reason why I try to buy them unlocked, so that the phone is also unbranded from any network logo etc.

Hi Jackie. Unlocking phones is entirely legal so I do not see how it could break your statutory warrantee. As far as I know, and from what I can find out, it is not illegal to get your phone unlocked even if it is still under contract so claiming the phone is no longer under warrantee could be dodgy.I am not an exper by any means and an organisation such as the Consumer Asociation could probably give you definitive advice here. regards Graham Graham Page Home Phone: 0207 265 9493 Mobile: 07753 607980 Fax: 0870 706 2773 Email: gpage@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx MSN: gabriel_mcbird@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype: gabriel_mcbird----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Cairns" <cairnsplace@xxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2008 4:29 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: UNLOCKING MOBILE PHONES Hi Carol I don't know about the sites you gave links to, but we know a nice chap inour area who has a shop selling everything mobile phone. He unlocks phonesof all shapes and sizes for £10. From what I know, it doesn't cause anyproblems for TALKS, but does invalidate your warranty if it is under a yearold. I'm sure Nutty will let you know more though, and will only be too willing to correct me if I'm wrong. (big smile.) First, has anyone done it themselves? If so, will it work still using TALKS? Second, I've looked at the following sites http://www.trycktill.com/eng/ http://unlock.nokiafree.org/ and http://www.unlockitfree.com/ All their methods vary a little. It seems that some talk about removingthe sim card, whilst the others do not. Others will unlock anything - butthen I read that the Nokia 6630 cannot be unlocked because it is a "BB5" model. This restricts the phone and cannot be unlocked via code or cable.Apparently I can only have this done via my mobile provider (costing about£30 I think)! Well, if anyone knows any different, please let me know. It seems though that I could do our 6600, if I'm daring enough ... Any comments (particularly experiences) most welcome.
