this is your choice, I think by default, gmail archives anything but you can create and move mail to personal folders in in the web interface, or, if you are planning to use gmail with an offline client only, you can configure gmail to delete mails as you download them.

If you want to be able to access your gmail inbox from multiple computer but not use the web interface, you should configure your email client to use imap instead of pop3. Then any emails should only be deleted from server when you manually delete them from your inbox thru the imap interface - or, of course, if you log into webmail and takee the mails out that wway.

Hi Jackie and all,

I haven't used Outlook with imap and gmail, but did use imap and gmail
with Thunderbird. I think possibly the reason your deleted messages
are showing up in "all mail" is because that's what gmail has them do
- I think "all mail" means all mail including your trash. I maybe
didn't follow the discussion properly but when you delete them from
the inbox do they disappear from there?
