[access-uk] Re: Tvonics Freeview Talking Recorder

I'm slightly confused by something here and hopefully someone can clear it up for me? Does this Talking recorder also include an in-built freeview tuner?

If I were considering purchasing it, which I am, it would presumably replace my existing Goodmans. Is that right?

Also, if I read it right, if you had this box you wouldn't need to purchase one of the new TVs from Panasonic. As this does everything they do plus give you the option of recording two programs at once.

I wouldn't bother hanging around too long for Sky. I spoke to them the other day at length
about their accessibility and was told that there is not much going on certainly in the
foreseeable future about an accessible sky plus or HD plus box. Certainly not with speech.
And, actually, they are not free. If you look at the simplist and most basic package for
around £19 a month. Over a year, that's £228. How much is the TVonics box?
£189 from the RNIB? I rest my case. It's very subjective William but I've been a loyal
sky customer for many years but have now decided to jump ship. I'm disappointed with their
view on accessibility and lack of commitment.

who is going to buy though the goodmans boxes people may want to sell
though now and the 600 quid portset freeview box, now that we can get this?
sighted people aren't going to want the portset boxes so what do
people
do with those?

Hi William.

*Sigh*, you really don't get the point do you? This is not some
piece
of junk, this is a top quality commercial PVR Freeview tuner with full text to
speech, even the menus and virtually all other functions are accessible with
the exception of internet and teletext, well worth it at twice the price. The
recorder even looks the piece, a really well designed and well crafted piece of
equipment.

All the best, Ibrahim.

I have been using the Tvonics box for the past 3 weeks and
absolutely
love it. Pretty much every feature speaks apart from the BBC Iplayer. The box
is of course upgradable so it may well be possible for Tvonics to make the
Iplayer speak.

I really don't think this is a major downside as everything else
on
the box is accessible. The speech is smooth and responsive, you can add, delete
and edit timers, You can series link tv/radio programs and much more.
When fast forwarding and rewinding you have audio feedback as to how far you
have moved through the program.

A couple of years ago it was looking as if an accessible PVR would
be
in the range of £500/600 but we have a box for almost a quarter of that figure.

I don't think anyone will be dissapointed by either the features
or
the performance of this box.

It's what we've been waiting for.

I am writing this from a personal standpoint rather than from an
RNIB
sales point of view.
