Hi. I don't think it's worth turning off the screen. Low brightness will save you battery time anyway. Another thing is if you are using your laptop in a cafe or in another public place, it just looks odd to the public. You'll get people walking up to you telling you that your laptop is switched off. Believe me someone will have the nerve and the cheek to intervene.

Ah i see. But then you are not actually turning off the screen if I understand you correctly. Turning down the brightness should not affect the graphical info that JAWS receives.

Not really as I don't have such a problem on this Vista laptop. Even if I set the screen to 0% JAWS works fine.

Cool that makes sense considering that JFW gets its info from video Intercept drivers and hooks. Any idea of if there is a work around?

Hi folks,

Here's the problem:
I know that on a Desktop PC if you turn off the monitor, JAWS still works as if nothing has happened. However, on my laptop it doesn't. This is how I know the screen is turned off because JAWS does not tell me which messages are read and tells me that the system tray is blank for example.
Does anyone know why this is, and if turning off the laptop is achievible with JFW without it screwing up?
