Still very confused - Andy----- Original Message ----- From: "Marie Baisez" <baisez.marie@xxxxxxx>

I'm almost sure the edit field clears when you try to type the key again, but you can check by touching just below the connect button, if there is some characters there the Touch will tell you and how many there are. Press the delete button many times to make sure, when there is nothing to delete, you will hear a soft bongo sound, then you will know the edit field is empty. I don't think you need the admin password and I didn't think one could change the key code for your router. Not a lot of help, I know but I can sympathise because it took me ages to connect my Touch when I first got it and it turned out that being so used to the way letters are said in English, I confused an I with an E., the way it was read in French by the techie who recorded it for me. Hope you get there soon.Marie----- Original Message ----- From: "ANDY COLLINS" <Andy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2011 3:29 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Trying to connect my Touch via wi-fiYes, the password is longer than 7 characters, about 15 or so. Does this matter for some reason? I do notice when the touch says "unable to connect..." that if I go back to the edit field, it says "password field 32 characters." I did wonder if this meant the edit field hasn't cleared, and so when I have another attempt, it is already adding to what I tried from last time, instead of from the start, in a clear edit field? No, the password isn't generic, it's one of my own.I didn't quite get point number 3, I turn off the router over night if powering off and on is what you were eluding too.Andy----- Original Message ----- From: "Stuart MacMillan" <bznclty@xxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2011 2:15 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Trying to connect my Touch via wi-fiA couple of things; 1) Is your password longer than 7 characters ? 2) Is your network name the generic name like netgear ? Change that 3) Have you reset the router ? ( power on and off to reset the dhcp device leases ) I also remember something from years ago that you had to add an extra character to encrypted passwords on some networks to log in but i cant quite remember it just now. I will go look As you say the kindle is fine with it just the touch being picky but that seems to be a general issue with Apples and netgears . I think they want you to but an airport :-) StuartOn Sat, Feb 26, 2011 at 5:49 AM, ANDY COLLINS <Andy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:Hi Carol - There's a more info button on the Touch, when I'm on the screen from my network, and double tapping on that brings up a screen where there are edit fields for ip address etc, but didn't see anything that allowedsfor selecting the kind of passkey, mine is WEP, and again, the Kindle, Mobile, and netbook all connect ok - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol Pearson" <carol.pearson29@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2011 1:40 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Trying to connect my Touch via wi-fiAh, Andy, the other thing is that there is a choice to be made about whattype of key you're using, WEP, SKP2 or whatever. Make sure that's setcorrectly. (I'm not sure if I had to set mine or it was chosen when theconnection was seen, but I didn't run into a problem there myself.) -- Carol P ---- Original Message ---- From: "Ibrahim Gucukoglu" <ibrahim_gucukoglu@xxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2011 1:12 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Trying to connect my Touch via wi-fiHi Andy. The password you will need to connect your ITouch to your wireless network is exactly the same as for your PC and Kindle. You need to make sure that it is entered exactly as it has been set, IE with capitals, punctuation marks and so on if you use those as part of your key. Also, depending on your router, you may have a limit on the number of devices you can connect at any one time, since some basic routing equipment, typically the junk boxes some ISP's provide their customers with will only allow a very few connections. You may wish to ask your ISP about this if your still not having any luck, but if the equipment is your own bought separately then the problem will be elsewhere. All the best, Ibrahim. ----- Original Message ----- From: "ANDY COLLINS" <Andy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2011 12:58 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Trying to connect my Touch via wi-fiMarie - please don't feel asking the obvious is patronising, it isn't too me anyway, sometimes I missed the obvious, and other times I just don't have the knowledge. This was actually helpful, but hasn't solved my issue yet. You might be getting me there however, you see, I thought the key or password I needed would be the same one I use to connect my mobile or Kindle to my network [Guess I still don't know the difference between WLAN and WI-FI!] It seems from what you say, I actually need some code that is written on the router? I've got a note of the 'password' for the router, which is different to the pass key I use to connect my mobile and Kindle to my network Since your message, I tried with this router password, but still couldn't get connected. Incidentally, this password for the router is one I created when I set up my home network a few years ago, so I must have changed whatever the default one was at the time. Does this make sense? - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marie Baisez" <baisez.marie@xxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2011 11:12 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Trying to connect my Touch via wi-fiNot sure how to say this and not sound patronising so, here it is: The code you must insert is not your personal password, it is your WIFI key the code tied to your router, written on it somewhere, usually in very small print. Sorry if I state the obvious, but, to me at least, a password and a WIFI key code are 2 different things: the password allows you to change the settings on your router, the key code allows other devices to talk to it and hear it. Good luck! The Touch can see my WLAN, the name shows up on the screen, and I double tap to select it, and that brings up the screen with an edit field on to enter my password, and this is where I hit a wall, as when I type it in, and have had sighted help to do this too, it says "connecting to..." then comes back and says "unable to connect to..." I'm able to connect a Kindle to my home network ok, using the same password, but not this Touch. Any further thoughts? - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Damon Rose" <damon.rose@xxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, February 25, 2011 10:39 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Trying to connect my Touch via wi-fiI just use my wep number from the bottom of the modem.
