Hi James. Yes, the trouble appears to be replying to confirmation E-mails.
I've tried filling in the form manually on the website, but apparently the
list is configured in such a way that confirmation is required. Also as far
as I can tell, there's no link to click on in order to achieve the task.

Is this problem happening with initial subscription requests, or with
replying to confirmation emails? If it's the latter, try subscribing via
the form on the list's web page on www.freelists.org. if it's replying to
confirmation e-mails that's the issue, have a look and see if the
confirmation messages contain a link you can click on to send your
confirmation.
