Absolutely. It is dreadful not to be well informed when making these decisions. If I'd known what you say there Jackie I probably would never have bothered getting XP Pro.Well no point in crying over spilt milk!

Hi Eleanor XP Pro has additional networking and server capabilities, and many peoplewho are in employment need to use JAWS Pro because they have a Pro operating system on their machine. It isn't any more stable than XP Home, it just hasmore features for people who are on a network etc. For anyone like myself who just wants to use it at home, then Home Premium is absolutely fine. It's just advisable to be aware when you purchase a new machine or operatingsystem what JAWS Standard will and won't work with. Window-Eyes, on the other hand, is one size fits all, so whatever your operating system, the same version will run on it for no extra cost. I hope that clarifies things for you and anyone else. Very interesting indeed Jackie. I have XP Pro because someone told me itwas more stable than the Standard XP but on my machine with Windows 7, I donot have the Pro but the standard or Home or whatever it is called. Probably a small word known as money. I was always told you could upgrade, but not downgrade. It's the same software, but is operating system specific. People who want to purchase JAWS think they are getting more for their dosh if they buy Pro. But all it does is allow the user to put it on Windows XP Pro, Vista Pro, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate and the same with Windows 7. Standard works with Home Premium and Basic versions of the above only. So my advice always has been to be mindful of what operating system you purchase because you could be hit in the pocket if you want JAWS Pro! Interesting one Jackie. I had to have Jaws Pro (not Standard) because I had Windows XP Pro, at least that was what I was told. I therefore had mine upgraded from Standard to Pro. Why do FS not allow a downgrade? Seems strange to me! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Cairns" <jackie.cairnsplace@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, September 05, 2010 1:13 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Thinking of downgrading thanks to the loving JAWS 12!Hi Chris You can't downgrade your copy of JAWS Pro to Standard though, FS forbid that. It is why I would never purchase Pro, because it is more costly for exactly the same software as Standard, except you can run it on all Windows platforms, not just Starter or Home Premium. It isn't just the purchase of Pro that is more expensive than Standard at £795 as opposed to £659, it's the upgrades that are also more expensive as you know. Then add your SMA to that which is also more costly than Standard. I am currently on Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. I upgraded really to check out Windows XP Mode and the other things Professional have to offer. The truth is I have to look at this long term. Financially I cannot afford the upgrade to JAWS Professional so I can be authorized to use JAWS 12 when it comes out. So here is my plan. I am thinking of downgrading back to Home Premium, still 32 bit, really so that I can use JAWS 12 when it comes out. I know I will miss Windows XP mode, but I can work around that. I have various operating systems that I downloaded as CD/DVD images from my university. So I can make my own XP Mode if I choose. Just wanted to let you know. I hope the downgrade goes well for me. Take care. -- From Chris H in Derbyshire ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq No virus found in this incoming message.
