Hi Steve,

I have reinstalled the Sky Q app and I'm being told I need to upgrade my
account to a multiscreen account in order to connect to the box - I don't have
Sky multiscreen and I specifically asked when I joined Sky if I could use the
app to check recordings etc. and there was no mention of me having to have a
multiscreen subscription.

I know virgin are far from perfect but I'm really wishing I'd stayed with them
as their app is a joy to use.

Many thanks,

Sarah

Sarah,

You should get a button to connect to your box if it is found.  If it is not
found, you should get told that you can browse the TV guide, but not make
recordings etc.

I hope this helps.

All the best

Steve

Hi Steve,

I have an iPhone SE, when I launch the Q app I get nothing, I'll try
reinstalling it later & see what happens.

Thanks for the other tips, I'll practice them later too!

Thanks as always,

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

What phone do you have?  I have an iPhone and Android phone here, and Sky Q
works well on both platforms.  I can see what recordings I have, I can even
delete recordings with the Android app, but you can't with the iPhone app.

What you can't do though is start playback on your box.  However, this is
relatively doable if you can count <Smile>.

First, you go into the app, press the Hamburger menu at the top left, then
tap recordings, then Recent Recordings.

Count from the top and find the programme you want to play.

Supposing you want Programme Number 4, which we will use as an example.

Go back to your box, press the TV Guide button top middle of your remote.
Then press the right arrow once to get you into Recent Recordings.  Then you
are on the top program.  In our example, we want programme number four.  The
programmes are in a grid going across three.  So if you are on Programme
number four, press down arrow once, then select, the middle button in the
cursor set of the remote.  If it's a series stack, you'll have to press it
again to start play.  If not, the first press should play it.  If in doubt
though, press it again.

I should explain the grid a bit better.  It's in a row of three, so each time
you go down, you'll go down three from where you are.  So if you go right
from 1, you're on programme 2, then if you go down, you're on 5 and so on.
Note that if you go across to programme three, it won't go across any
further.  So to get to four, we would have to arrow left two, then down.

When you've finished the programme, press the back button, below the volume
up/down on the remote, then right arrow once, then select, and you'll delete
the programme.

If you want to play the next programme down, press left then select again.
Don't just press select, or you will delete programmes.

I suggest you practise this with your partner before going for it yourself.

It's not ideal, but certainly my wife and I, who are both blind, can manage
Sky Q.

All the best

Steve

Hi All,

As someone who's just switched to Sky and been provided with the Sky Q
service for which the app does not work like the Virgin TV anywhere ap i.e.
to control the box, set recordings, view what you've recorded etc I'd say the
virgin app is excellent.  I am really regretting moving to sky now as I now
have to rely on my partner to see what we've recorded, set recordings etc.  I
did check all this when I rang Sky and they said it would work fine but well
they obviously said what they had to to get me to switch.

Thanks,

Sarah

Hi all.

I can use the TV Anywhere app without difficulty. You can use up to two
devices; I don’t know about listening to recordings via the phone.

Hope this helps,

Hi Mandy,

LONG TIME NO SPEAK!:)

I was interested to know that you think the Virgin Media app is now working
quite well with the iPhone handset and Voice-Over. If you try it and/or
switch because it's good, I'd really like to know as we came away from using
Virgin's TV because (at that time) things didn't work well, but it may be a
reasonable solution for us, rather than searching round for a suitable box
or TV that has a recorder in it and speech.

I do like to keep up with these things so hope to hear from you, either way,
please.

I am currently a Sky TV customer and using the app but as we are with
VirginMedia for our broadband and phone, I am thinking of switching to them
for the TV.

A friend of mine showed me his phone and the app seems quite accessible
with a few advantages such as being able to record radio programmes which I
cannot do on Sky, also swiping up to delete a programme but I have been
told it can only work on one phone whereas the Sky plus app works on more
than one.
I am hoping someone on this list uses Virgin and their app and can tell me
how they find it for accessibility.  I thought I read somewhere that
recordings can be played via the phone.

Also, we might have to buy a new TV.  Any recommendations please?

Mandy.
