Hi Steve. I bet people think you have an built in MP3 player on your cane when you have a K Sonar attached to your cane. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Nutt" <steve@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi James,

I agree with you, I got rid of my Ultracane simply because it was too heavy
for every day use. I travel around a lot, and I just found it cumbersome
compared to a regular cane. But the K Sonar is pretty good, and you can
clip it to your cane. Only down side to that, is you have to wear an
earpiece with it. I don't like that either, as it impairs hearing. That
one is at http://www.ddaware.co.uk.

Finally, I am waiting to receive the new mobility aid from Caretec which is called Ray. It is a handheld device, but it vibrates or beeps, your choice, and I like that. No headphones required, but you can use them, if you want
the audible warnings. http://www.caretec.at.

We will be able to sell this, and if anyone is interested, write to me off
list, and I'll let you know when I have worked out the price, and more
importantly, evaluated it.

I hope this helps.

All the best

Steve

Hi Peter,

Just my thoughts here: Interesting. I definately know what you mean, it is
easier to move along with, but I just can't get over the fact that its just not portable enough for a mobility aid for me. Plus, I have learnt a variety of Cain techniques, so I don't feel the need for a vibrating warning system.
I should try one again though, really give one a go.

I bought one of these secondhand over 3 years ago. And, although I used it
a few times, last Monday someone who was looking up in the clouds - or
behind him, got himself intangled with my cane and broke off one of the
joints. I was ok because I wasn't far from where I was going and someone
helped me there, and I managed to get a lift back home when we had finished.

The only other usable cane I had was the Ultracane so I had to use it and I
am very glad that I did. I find that I can walk much faster because it
slides over the groud much easier because it is top heavy plus the added
bonus of the 2 vibrating buttons under the thumb to warn you of approaching
obstacles. Iwish I hadstarted using it seriously 3 years ago.
