Hi Jackie,
Yes, you do need an installer for Nest and you do need an existing bell chime,
or at least the wires to it.
Chris my engineer installed mine.

Hi Steve
Interested in your observations on the Nest system. I suppose my first
question, in a house with no sight and neither Nest nor Ring, is how easy is it
to set this up? Do you need a wired doorbell in the first place? I like the
idea of being able to identify parcels being left outside, most delivery
drivers ring the bell, but some are a bit wary when they hear Bumble barking
her head off, and have been known to put the parcel over the gate and leg it!!
(smile.)
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Hi,
I must admit, I prefer Nest to Ring for various reasons.
Apart from anything else, last month's Which gave it the highest score, but
also, it has some really cool features.
We have just got two Nest doorbells. If you subscribe to nest Aware which is a
fiver a month, or 50 quid a year, you can teach it any faces that come to your
door by name. With their permission of course. So if I come to the door,
Angie would hear "Steve is at the door". I don't believe Ring can do this. It
will speak that message on all my Google Home and Amazon Alexa devices.
Also, Nest can inform you if parcels are left at the door, even if the postman
doesn't ring the bell. Ever had a delivery where they do that, just leave it
on the doorstep and you don't know it's there? With Nest, the camera will see
it and immediately pop up a message on your phone that a parcel has been left.
It will tell you that a parcel has also been picked up, once you do.
I believe this could be a security game changer for blind people especially.
I've only had them for about a week, but I'm loving all the things that Nest
can do.
All the best
Steve

Hello, Darren, it is all controlled via the smart phone, and associated
app. There is no hardware involved.

Hi List.
I was hoping a user of this device would be able to answer the following.
Do you have a handset in the house to answer the door, or is it all done
via a smart phone?
I've been talking to someone this morning who's interested, but because
of dexterity issues would rather have the option of answering via a
traditional handset rather than fiddling about with an app.
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light.
