I've just read the review on the Kindle, and while it looks like having great potential, still seems to be some way off being the kind of device I would make much use of--I'm not a great fan of electronic reading, but would like to hear an example of the Samantha and Tom voices out of interest--I find listening to JAWS all day more than enough, that when I want to read books, I want to hear a professional reader and production, this is why I'm such a big fan of Audible, but at least, the Kindle does play Audible content.I took a look in the Amazon Kindle store, but when browsing the book titles, didn't see any indication as to whether the author had allowed the title to be available via TTS. Anybody say where this info is given? Not much help if it isn't on the front page of titles, but hidden deeper in the product info or somewhere -Andy----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Nutt" <steve@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2010 2:27 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: The KindleHi Sharon, Here's a great review, proving that the menus do in fact, speak. http://bit.ly/8Y3MLH All the best Steve -----Original Message-----From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf OfSharon Bowell Sent: Tuesday 28 September 2010 08:21 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: The KindleMany thanks Chris, and to everyone else for all your comments on the Kindle.I may try and actually get my hands on one before purchasing, but all comments were very helpful.I was interested in the kindle as there seems a lot of books available forit and like you say at very cheap prices. Thanks once again to all. Although publishers can block the speech reading of books, there are many who make books available to speech readers. Also, a lot of freebooks can be downloaded from the Kindle site which are in the public domain. The voice that I heard is a clear American male voice. I believe that there is a female alternative, but apparently no UK English voice. The joypad, or 5-way control, is a good size, but most of the keys and buttons are small, though probably no smaller than those on mobile phones with QWERTY keyboards. The sighted reader has to press a button to 'Turn the page' of a book, but reading by speech is continuous. Books for the Kindle seem to be cheap, quite possibly cheaper than their equivalent audio book or talking book versions. I hope that these few comments are useful.
