Hi Steve,

Thanks for that, I've been given permission to download the software to
my machine, so I'll give it a go.

Cheers

Hi Dave,

I don't think it reads PDF, but it can be made to split up the MP3 files
into chapters. See the file splitter utility that comes with it.

All the best

Steve

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this post.

I have some questions about Text Aloud though.

1, Is it any good at reading pdf documents?

2, Is there any way to make the MP3 file navigable by a daisy player?

I have training materials which would be much easier to use in class, if
I could navigate by page, chapter etc.

I'm probably asking for too much, but if you never ask....

Cheers

Hi Doris,

It is not bad, but nowhere near as good as Text Aloud. TA allows you to
change voices in the middle of the file for example. It also reads Word
and HTML files directly. So you do get what you pay for.

All the best

Steve

My favorite free text to speech utility is Dspeech from

http://dimio.altervista.org/eng/

It can convert text to mp3, .wav, and, I believe, .og vorbis. You will
have to convert your MS word documents to text in order to use the
utility but it is free and does a really good job. it has accessibility
settings and can work with any sapi 4 or sapi 5 voice installed on your
system.
