Hi Roger,

No need to throw away an analogue TV. You can get Digital
set-top boxes which will receive and deliver to your TV, a
signal from a digital aerial using co-axial cable. So,
while you may need to replace the analogue aerial with a
digital one, you can keep your old TVs.

In fact I have five such boxes in my house, and two are
running with co-ax.

George.

Roger, some flat screen Tvs do have in-built Freeview
digital tuners. I'd
imagine Sky isn't usually included, but I'v eno personal
interest in that.

analogue sets of the age you mention are unlikely to have
SCART sockets, but
with analogue sets that are equiped with SCART a Freeview
box is the solution.
Don't know if any Freeview boxes actually have an RF output,
but if so, then
older sets would obviously be usable.

Without wanting to stray from your question Roger, With TV
coming to the
internet now, I suppose computers are now, and will
increasingly be another way
of viewing. (Via watch it again, or whatever it will be
called, once the Beeb
gets that sorted.) Believe some films and features on
Channel 4 are now
downloadable.

Hi All

I was shocked to find my TV in my study is now 17 years old.
So a
replacement is long overdue. That is where my problems
started. In a very
few years time the analogue signal is to be switched off and
digital will
reign supreme. Does that mean all analogue TV's will be
thrown away as
useless? If so buying one now is to have only a limited use
before a
replacement is needed. When looking at the specifications it
will often say
no to a digital tuner. Does this mean that although the set
may be a flat
screen it is only an analogue one.

Any guidance will be most appreciated.

Many thanks

Roger
