All good points Steve.
How often are we going to change our phones? Not that often I think.
Cheers,
Hi Kevin,
But what you don't realise is that Freedom do do that anyway. They get
their money back by software maintenance agreement costs, and charging the
earth for JFW upgrades, rather than charging you for transfers. And what
about charging you just for remote access to another PC? And what about
charging you just because you are on XP Pro, rather than Home? Oh yes, they
do it, but in much more devious ways <Smile>.

oh come on mark! if you bought a new pc you wouldn't expect to have to pay a
fee to access it if you already own a screenreader? the principle is the
same with talks. for all intense and purposes, talks is a cut down
screenreader aimed at mobile phones. look at it this way, JFW costs, what,
£650 or so? so using the talks example, if you boght an ew pc, you wouldn't
be very happy if freedom scientific charged you another £220 despite already
having paid the £650 for jfw!!

topeter,
This subject has gone round the houses time and time again in the three years i have had talks on my 9210i.
The developers have to recoup their costs and perhaps even turn a profitandenable continued development of the product. If the licencing of the software wasn't controlled it would be made freely available by someonethey would never sell any ligitimate versions once a pirate version was onupgrade
the web somewhere.
There have been suggestions to tie the software licence to the sim card rather than the phone which is just as bad imho.
moaning about it is not going to change any of this. If I chose tomy 9210i I would expect to have to pay for the software again and they areof
doing you a favor by not making you pay the whole price for each changephone you choose to have. You can also sell on the phone with thelicencedcopy or you would then own two copies of talks.
