Right you asked, you shall know (big smile.)

Firstly, the voice isn't so bloody intrusive and loud as the Cobolt man. It gives me a headache whenever we want to use the Cobolt device, and can't stop the man from saying "including case not including case" every time you breathe on it.

Seriously though, the verbosity of the voice when you pull the tape out isn't so excessive on the Caretec measure. Every time the tape moves on the Cobolt machine, you get a reading, even when you slightly fluctuate it to get an accurate measurement.

The other thing with the Caretec machine is that it fits in the pouch much easier. The Cobolt unit can turn itself on if you wrestle with putting it back in the pouch, causing him to get all excited again.

I know they are probably silly things, but I can remember using the Cobolt fellow when we were measuring curtains before moving to our flat two years ago. The place was empty so he really made a lot of noise while Ian was up the ladders. I couldn't stand it so I went out for a walk until he was finished. We didn't have the Caretec device then, or it would have been much more palatable on the ears!!

But they are both pretty accurate in terms of their functionality.

Come on, Jackie, don't stop there ...

Why is it better?

Ian, If my memory serves me right it's about the same price as the Cobolt one, but it's better for a few reasons.

Well Ian thinks this discovery with the light probe is really interesting Andy.

I bought mine from the address you posted for Debbie, but I got a phone number and rang my order. They also do a good alternative talking tape-measure to the Cobolt one in case anybody is interested. It is also very good.

For me, if it is held directly under a ceiling light, it makes the same
high
pitched sound it does for natural light -

| Now you've done it Steve. Ian is running about with the Colorino
testing
| natural and artificial light (smile.) Very clever that. I never knew
you
| could do that with it as I don't use the light probe bit of it much.

| Hi Andy,
|
| Not only that, but the light probe can tell you whether it is natural or | artificial light. If you hear a buzzing kind of sound in the note, then
the
| light is artificial, but if it is a pure note, then the light is
natural.
| To hear the difference, first turn on a light, and measure, then turn
off
| all lights, and point at a window in the daylight, and you will hear the
| difference. That is the most advanced light probe I have seen.
|
| All the best

|
| Hi all -
|
| Got my Colorino colour identifyer today, and my first impressions are
that
| it scores well over the Cobolt equivalent. It is also much smaller, and
much
| better built, and the light probe is much more useful too as it actually
| pinpoints the direction of the light source.
|
| I haven't had any sighted clarification yet, but where I am able to say
with
| some certainty, it is more accurate in colour detection than the Cobolt;
it
| is also a bit more expensive at £73.48 [including p&p]
|
| What I am wondering is how to recalerbrate it and to change the volume, | there doesn't seem a way to do this? There also doesn't appear to be an
| off-on switch.
|
| The Colorino comes in a rather odd zip-book type pouch.
|
| Anyway, all in all, a good buy I think -
|
| Andy
