sighted people do not pay for their books.

Same here, I know the tb service costs, subscriptions met some of that
cost in prior times, but now it's all free, they will have a hard time if
donations don't keep up with what even the heavily subsidised subscriptions
brought in.

I dont necessarily think TB should be free. I am very happy for RNIB to
seek donations. I just wonder about where it might end up. Will the strategy
work?

Let me see if I have understood this properly. You think that the talking
book service should be "free" - i.e. paid for from donations, but you don't
think RNIB should actually ask for donations )which of  course we are all
free to make or not according to our preferences and circumstances) in order
to run it.
Is that right?

Terry

Hello,

Just got email fron RNIB Connect, which contained the following:
"Help grow the Talking Books library

RNIB has launched a new online fund allowing supporters to donate more
easily, as teams work hard to reach their targets through unique fundraising
drives and activities.

The charity encourages those who find the talking books service of
benefit to setup an online fund and a new book to the online shelf. You can
find out more by visiting rnib.org.uk/talkingbooks"

Is it just me? I am puzzled as to exactly what this means?
Comes very soon after their making Talking Books free...
The link they provide does not give further info about this fund, as far
as I can see.

pardon my sarcasm  but, it looks look the "free" service wont be free
for much longer. expect the RNIB to ramp up their campaign with strap
lines  along the lines of"without your support we cannot continue to
offer this service"  or something to that effect./
