Hi

It seems astonishing to me that whatever RNIB do some people will immediately suspect some sort of conspiracy. I don't know anywhere else where I can choose from more than twenty four thousand books, professionally read for absolutely nothing. With the squeeze on council budgets across the country talking book subscription has been decreasing for some time and it was costing more and more to collect that dwindling amount of money. Since the service has stopped charging in November I'm told that around five thousand people have joined or rejoined and are now enjoying books again. Note that I said stopped charging, because nothing is free and someone has to pay for it. RNIB is requesting donations, you don't have to give, but the books and everything around them must be paid for.

I, for one, am celebrating a great service, paid for by RNIB for blind and partially sighted people who want to use it and the only way I know of testing a strategy in real life is to try it to see if it works.

I dont necessarily think TB should be free. I am very happy for RNIB to seek donations. I just wonder about where it might end up. Will the strategy work?

You think that the talking book service should be "free" - i.e. paid for from donations, but you don't think RNIB should actually ask for donations )which of course we are all free to make or not according to our preferences and circumstances) in order to run it.
