But seriously, people don't have to donate, they are merely offering you the
opportunity as with any charity looking for dosh. Whatever RNIB does at
times that infuriates me as well on occasion, I do love to read, and now
that OverDrive and the Talking Books service are both free, I am happy to
take advantage of the thousands of titles on offer. No, some books I would
like to read are not available, but there is a huge number that are. If I
ever came into a lot of money (haha,) provided RNIB could assure me it would
all go to the production of Talking Books, I would donate some myself. But,
from my many years experience of using RNIB services, a lot of money is
wasted on projects that are started and fade out because they haven't been
thought through, or don't work at the end of the day. With everywhere being
strapped for cash, it is inevitable that RNIB will look for donations, that
isn't a crime or unreasonable. What would be unacceptable though is for
public money to be wasted on half-baked projects, that's when I jump on my
soap-box!! (smile.)
