Hi Iain,

Oh well, I'm rather surprised at that.
I must admit that one of the most useful gadgets that I've been fortunate to
have for the last 10 years or so is a scanner.  When I can't get the book
that I want, if I can beg, borrow or steal the relevant volume I then scan
it.  Not ideal for every body but it's something I very quickly got used to.

I don't think this is the case. In Perth & Kinross, only half the
subscription cost was met.

Hello Mike,

Yes, I must agree with you on this.  I was very surprised when the RNIB
announced that the were dropping the subscription for talking book titles.
I was one of the fortunate people whose subscription was met by my local
authority, the Moray council in this instance.  I believe that most local
authorities in Scotland did the same.

I dont necessarily think TB should be free. I am very happy for RNIB to seek
donations. I just wonder about where it might end up. Will the strategy
work?

Let me see if I have understood this properly. You think that the
talking
book service should be "free" - i.e. paid for from donations, but you don't
think RNIB should actually ask for donations )which of  course we are all
free to make or not according to our preferences and circumstances) in order
to run it.
Is that right?
