Hi

I have used the ptn1 now for about three years and it does the job well
indeed the new player has so far little appeal for me.
Whenever I had problems before with players RNIB replaced them within a few
days - I have no complains.

What is interesting for me with this new player is that with its new network
capabilities is probably the start of a RNIB network that will do eventually
a similar job to the web box (called now something else) offered by wireless
for the blind - RNIB always do their own things.

And while talking about library books, I can certainly recommend to anybody
who did not try it yet Calibre books - I find the offering of the same level
as that of the RNIB. The format is not Daisy but for fiction Daisy offers
little advantage (Daisy machines are great for playing both).

Also if you did not try it already you may like to give the Seeing Ear
library a go:
http://www.seeingear.org/
These are text books, it is free and The collection is growing rapidlly.

Regards
Isaac

This is not the first time I have heard of this happening over time with the
PTN1. Indeed, I was experiencing similar difficulties before mine was
replaced with the current PTX1. I found that tilting it or even giving it a
slight shake caused the disc to be accepted. Not very technical, but it
worked.

this whole thread it seems to me highlights a much wider issue which is
probably off topic for this list and that is the very poor standard of
customer service we are getting from RNIB at the moment. Things have
definitely not improved since the introduction of everything having to go
through Customer Services. I think RNIB needs to address this as a matter of
urgency.
