fine mo yes it is the fibre optic and that's zy we need the two routers. it
very fast and very good i must say. many thanks though for getting back and for
the offer of help if stuck.

Hi John.

It all depends what kind of connection you have. If its fiber to the
premises or FTTP, or fiber to the home FTTH, then you'd need the extra
box. you need the extra box coming in from the wall to provide the
initial connection, then your router connects to that to provide you
with the networking services for your home, WiFi, etc. If how ever your
connection type is FTTC or fiber to the cabbinet, and your connection is
coming in via a standard telephone socket, then yes you can ditch both
boxes in favour of 1 like the tp-link 9980. If you need any further
