I hope you’re right.
I think back to when I was first employed as a Technical Officer, what we would
now call a Rehab. Worker, and in order to do my new job, I had something called
a Versabraille, so not only had to learn my new job, recruit readers and
drivers but also dip my toe into the very new world of computers. From there I
went onto have a DOS-based computer and had to learn to use the Word Perfect
word processor and then later still, learn how to use a Windows-based computer
and MS Word.
Other than when I took a break to have my children, I have never been out of
work, but I don’t think my employers or my colleagues really appreciated what a
challenge it was at times to not only do my job competently but also have to
learn the new technologies which came along.
Learning to take a photo on the iPhone today, doesn’t sound like much, but the
real joy is that I have achieved something which my husband, despite being
sighted, couldn’t do! At least, with the help I got from you folk here!
