I agre with Tris on buyign cheap cd's.

Two things that go wrong when backing up to cd beyond the usual physical dings to the disc when it comes to restore.

1. The discs quality is poor.
2. Speed of burn.

The latter is a soap box of mine. Sure the manufacturer claims that the disc can be burnt on at up to 54x or whatever silly number we are up to now. The key word is, "can".

Try that with important data, come back to it 6 months down the line and if you are copying the entire contents of the disc back you'll run into all sorts of data errors.

It's all to do with the ink on the disc settling but as a rule I always burn discs as slow as the burning program will allow me if the datas important or I want somebody to be able to copy the data back to a hard drive.

Nero 6 and 7 have InCD which allows packet writing to CDRWs. As matter of personal opinion I don't think that CDRWs make a very good medium for that type of work. I used to run into compatability problems with other PCs when I tried it. However this was some time ago and somebody else may dissagree and say they use it like that all the time. One of those USB keys is much better for that with occasional backup of a whole data set to CDRW which potentially doubles your security of access.

CDRWs are now very cheap, but I would stick with something reasonably well known if your data is really important. I have occasionally run itto the odd frustrating problem with really cheap ones.

First, can anyone recommend a good source of cheap CDRWs? Second, if you are storing, for example texts or photos on a CDRW, is it possible to delete and replace individual files or is it only possible to delete and rewrite the entire contents?
