Thanks for this Debby. I will have sighted assistance this morning hopefully.

Hi again David
Just had an awful thought - you are talking about the DTR (digital recorder)
aren't you?
Anyway, here goes:
If it hasn't actually done the re-tuning bit then you can do this when you
first plug it in -
At this point you will be asked whether you want to start tuning and audibly
you will hear “press blue to activate talking menus”. Press the blue button on
the remote (bottom row, right hand button). It will then read the information
on the screen “Please press OK when you wish the box to start tuning”. Press
the OK button (large circular button a third of the way up the remote). It will
now scan for channels in your area with a progress announcement every 15
seconds.

You may have to select regions etc.

------

If it has re-tuned and you just need to turn speech back on:

If you didn’t turn speech on when you set up the box, you can switch the
talking features on or off at any point, although this may require sighted
assistance. Using the on-screen menu and the navigation controls you can
activate talking features by pressing the menu button then select settings,
press OK then accessibility settings, press OK and then move down to
text-to-speech. Scroll through the options using the left or right navigation
keys.

Without sighted assistance you may be able to activate talking features by
using this button sequence. Follow this exact button sequence: menu, down, OK,
down, down, OK, down, down, down, right. After a few moments, talking features
should be activated otherwise return to TV and try the sequence again.

-----

I did test the sequence out when I helped someone else so know that it does
work.

You should then only have to re-set anything you had before such as speech
rate, volume etc but with speech on it's a doddle.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Debby

  Hi Debby,

Thanks for replying so quickly. Don’t worry about insulting my abilities such
as they are.

I think I have got the instructions on one of my daisy players but, in the
meantime, please send me the relevant section I need rather than the whole
manual.

  Thanks in anticipation.

  Hello David
At last, something I understand and could maybe help with, haha.
My TV Onyx has refused to work twice now and it's very frustrating as I had
to re-set my timers and TTS settings, luckily it kept my Library intact. The
last time it happened it went into "install" mode so had to go back to the
instructions, therefore pressed the blue button immediately to start speech.
There is a way to turn it on without doing this though.
If you haven't kept the instructions handy or in accessible format you could
download from the RNIB shop or I could look them up myself and send you
anything you need. Sorry, don't want to insult your abilities so forgive me if
I am teaching you to suck eggs as they say.
  Cheers
  Debby

    Hi list,

Last night TVonics and freeview just stopped working. I was not in the
room at the time so no buttons were inadvertently pressed.

Got a neighbour in this morning and discovered it was retuning itself and
eventually was fine once again. However, it has been behaving strangely during
the day. The current state of play this evening is that I am getting freeview
tv but TVonics is not speaking and the correct channels do not respond properly
to the remote.

It tried to connect me to the Welsh transmitter this morning but I changed
it to the North-West. I also put new batteries in the remote. Anybody else
had similar problems? Do I need to put in TTS voices again, if so, how?

    Regards

    David T
