It'll have a DAC in it, Although given the price the quality of convertion's
not going to be up to much. It all depends on what your standards are.

I've found various options to purchase online including this at Amazon.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/OPTICAL-ADAPTOR-Digital-signal-converter/dp/B005OD16MO

and since that will undoubedly go over two lines here's the tiny version.

Does this sound like the right thing? To me it does, but then I know
almost nothing about this type of connection.

Oh, the Optical port does have a little cover, its on a hinge and when you
push a cable in, or your finger the door opens inwards.
Cheers

Andy, if the sound is taken from the optical out on the TVonics, it will
not
play through an anologue amp unless as you say, it is converted through a
Digital Analogue Converter. These are available as separate units such
as
the Arcam DAC for around £300 but also, some CD players and Mini-Disks
will
have an optical in where you could use them to monitor the audio. Some
of
the upper end CD players provide access to external sources to their DAC
converters. If though you have a Digital Amp which has dedicated digital
inputs then this will provide the amplification you need without going
through an external DAC. Cyrus for example do some digital amps which
are
not AV but have optical inputs for the likes of a CD player, DAT machine
or
Minidisk player.

Hope that helps and sorry if you already knew this.

Hi John - Does this mean that all digital output has to be converted to
analog in order to be amped through a sound system? I had imagined the
sound
going from the optical out in to a digital amp, so no need for
conversion? -

Hi Andy, the only way you could do that is to route through an digital
to
analog converter, and from the DAC into the amp.

people

I don't. I'll be quite happy to disconnect it. But I'd like the new
box
to be connected to the amp in the same way that the Goodmans is at the
moment.

Subject: [access-uk] TVonics connection question

Hi, Like so many others I've just taken my delivery of this product.
My current set-up, using the Goodmans, is that I've got a Scart to
fono adaptor. This connects the Freeview box directly into the back
of
my amp, thus allowing me to have the Freeview sounds coming out of
my
amp's speakers and avoid turning on the TV. The current box is also
connected to the TV using a scart cable and the external arial also
goes into the box.

I've looked at the back of the TVonics and have found the Scart
connector. If I use this to connect to the back of my TV, what would
I
need to also connect the TVonics to my amp.

At some point I'm probably going to want to connect my DVD player up
to all this as well. Can anyone offer any advice on how this might
be
done?

I've not yet looked at the manual but obviously am planning to. Any
help in the meantime would be much appreciated.
