I know what to do, you are supposed to press and hold the mute button.
However, the first time I tried mine out, I had a sighted family member here,
and as I was describing the steps that I was going to do, once I knew what the
buttons were on the remote, he went ahead and activated the voice guide for me
as I was talking. When the telly comes on, it plays built in music. This
weekend I’ll have my sighted daughter visiting, and I am going to see about
resetting the tv, and setting it up from scratch myself, just so that I can
know that I can, or cannot, do it in the future, if the need arises, so I’ll
let you know.

how easy is it to turn the voice guide on, when one first gets the tv? can this
be easily done by a totally blind person alone?
I am thinking of getting one of these new sets myself, but often have no
sighted assistance available, and if possible, don't really want the set just
sitting around for quite a time purely because it needs sight to turn the voice
guide on.

Hi Carol,
I’ll answer your questions in order.
My tv is a 49 inch model, but as I have it on a chimney breast, it fits well,
however, my friend Billy up in Scotland got a 40 inch tv, although I’m not sure
of the actual model.
The hard drive is an Elements 2tb portable drive, so there is no power supply
to worry about, the drive takes its power from the USB port.
As for setting the timer, when you bring up the tv guide and find something
that you wish to record, you just press the record button and the telly sets
the timer itself, similar to the TVonics recorder. If it is a series, you will
even be asked if you would like to set up a series recording. Plus, just like
with the TVonics, you will get notifications during commercials to press a
button for more information on a trailed program, or to record.
Absolutely you can adjust the speed of the guide voice, very slow, slow,
normal, fast and very fast, as well as being able to adjust the volume, soft,
medium and loud .

Do you know the smallest model they do because we don't have much room! :-)
Anyway, I'd be interested to know what hard drive you are using to record on
and how you set the timer. In addition, can you increase or D crease the speed
