When I say "indepth", I'd have been happy with a quarter of an hour if the person had been able to answer my questions. They were specific but I didn't need to look at everything.

Anyway, I think I've probably said enough and will book any appointment in future, if ever I decide to look at equipment again.

Hi Eleanor,

Asking for an appointment if you want an in-depth demo,
as Carol did, makes common sense. You really can't
expect someone to be doing nothing, sitting there just
waiting to do you an hour's demo, at the drop of a hat.
If it was just a let me feel it thing, that would be
easy. But because Carol wanted "in-depth" then it is just
plain sense to make an appointment first, or you're going
to get disappointed.

All the best

Steve

Tony we cannot be mind readers and cannot know of an
appointment system through inspiration.

Hi Carol,

Am outside your country's so really can't say too much.

I agree with Steve's point that in my experience for
example it would be good for an appointment to be made.

Now on Roger's point, there is no need for rudeness by a
prospective supplier!

You have now a contact in the RNIB so go for it!

By the way (for your information) that person's mail
appeared on the list!

Anyway sure it has happened to most of us I'm sure in
the past!

Relax and hopefully you will get that problem you wrote
of resolved satisfactorily.

All the best

Tony

I agree Steve, to an extent, but I know they have a High
Tech team and shouldn't they all have a pretty good
working knowledge about all items? I mean, when they
haven't got customers, they're there to play to their
hearts' content, answer the odd call or two here and
there I guess!

Now perhaps I'm really getting even more mad than when
I started this morning so I'd best crawl back into a
hole somewhere! <Smiles>

Hi Roger,

I have some sympathy for Carol too, but if you are
expecting an in-depth demo of a product, it is really
only polite to make an appointment. If you don't make
an appointment, you can't really expect someone to drop
everything just to give you an in-depth demo on the
fly.

All the best

Steve

Hi Carol

You have my sympathy as I've been down that street as
well. Several years ago I wanted to buy a portable book
reader and the one to have was the Road Runner. I have
a severe hearing loss and therefore hear mostly
electronically. This made me wary as to whether it
would be suitable for me.

I phoned the dealer and was told the price etc. I
explained my difficulty and fears so would I be able to
return it if I needed to. In no circumstances I was
told as the machine would be second hand. If it was
unsuitable I'd have to find a buyer to purchase it off
me. What he didn't realise and was not interested in
listening to was that only the actual machine would be
used briefly as I would have used my own batteries out
of courtesy and I never use head-phones ever as they
are of no use to me. My own induction loop would have
been plugged in instead.

Another list member agreed to meet me and allow me to
try his. It transpired

I was unable to get on with it and never did purchase
one. But the dealer in

question, due to his short sightedness and rude
behaviour has lost a potential customer for life. I
would wait for hell to freeze over before I bought
even a box of matches from him in the future.

Hi all,

I don't exactly apologise for this post and I'll try to
keep it brief!

I've just written about my recent experience when
visiting the RNIB shop at Judd Street for the first
time a few weeks back ...

(I won't repeat here what I wrote there ...)

My quest to get a proper indepth demonstration of the
Plextalk Pocket has been exceedingly difficult ... and
I've now decided to give it up.

Not only was I unable to get anything like a
demonstration at the RNIB, but I have declined to
purchase the "Infotech" article. This was the last
nail in the coffin for me! I was told this would cost
me £10 as I'm not a regular subscriber to "Infotech"
and you can no longer purchase individual articles at
a reasonable rate. I think £10 is too steep and,
despite my writing both Brian and Terry at T&T, I
heard nothing from them.

Well, that's just too bad! It seems my quest for a
recorder I'll really like and get on with is just not
to be!

Surely, it ought to be easier than this to get proper
demonstrations and a working knowledge of this high
tech stuff for which we have to pay fairly high prices
anyway ...

OK - rant over!
