[access-uk] Re: THE OLD CHESTNUT OF FREEDOM'S US AND UK PRICES

I'd be interested to know how much access equipment is sold for in third
world countries where everyday items, such as the Big Mac, is a lot cheaper
or how much in Nordic countries where the cost of living is much higher.

Cheers

Barry

I don't think resellers make much profit on the devices themselves . I had
thought they made more money on training and other support around the
devices and or scripting. Does anyone have any inssights into that?

Transatlantic pricing tends to be about cost of living and overheads. If you
look at burgers, you tend to find that McDonalds charges 99 cents for a
burger they sell for 99p in the UK. It's almost a number for number thing,
reflecting the additional costs UK taxes, staffing, rent, etc, charges.
This could just be a classic 'rip off Britain' thing that the tabloids go so
crazy about.

Good discussion though. Interested to hear more about this.

i suspect they think they can charge what they like because of the limited
market but that fails to value british customers as you say richard!

Hi, I've been looking at upgrading to OpenBook 9 and getting the Pearl
camera.

It seems that if you live in the US you can currently get the camera for
$600 or about £400 whereas it's £600 in the UK.

I understand all the stuff about exchange rates, shipping (which
incidentally is free for online orders in the US) and of course we don't
know what price Freedom charges its UK distributors.

Having said all that, it seems mighty unfair to have such a blatant
discrepancy. Does anyone have any idea why the prices should be so
different?

It would also be interesting to know whether the UK prices of Freedom
products is recommended by Freedom or fixed by the UK resellers. It's
strange that there seems to be so little competition in the market. Is
there any agreement between distributors as to pricing?

I'd welcome observations and particularly comments from distributors.
Richard
