Sigate or any other firewall does not block e-mail. If you have allowed outlook express through the firewall both ways, you can receive and send e-mail ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andy Collins" <andy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi Martin -

Firstly, somebody said that Sygate was out of date now [unless I upgrade and
allow symantek nonsence on to my system], but I did check it's list of
software, and OE was set to"allow", so a strange one; I doubled check by
enabling Sygate again, and when I did, it blocked my outgoing messages,
disabling it, and they got sent!

Isn't it pretty unlikely that with both the Windows firewall on, and a
hardware fire wall in my router, that I'll get 'hacked'? -

| The windows firewall being only one way is severely flawed and can easily
| be set to allow both way trafic by someone with the knowledge to do so.
In
| my opinion it is pants and you should never rely on it as your only
| defence. I use sygate and have disabled the windows firewall altogether.
| Try looking in the apps section within sygate and see if it is blocking
| your e-mails there. If so it is easily changed.
