I'll back up Barry on this prog. It's simple and effective. Chris posted
some instructions on how to use it that I copied. If you want them, just
let me know and I'll post to the list again.

Cheers

Barry

I've been using C Cleaner a Freeware app from

http://www.ccleaner.com

For around 4 years now. Clears cookies, and lots of other Caches.

Barry.

Hi Christine, either you can do it manually as foolows:

click on my computer. go to local drive C. go to documents and settings,
then to the administrator folder, which may be called administrator, or may
be called your name. In there you'll find a folder called cookies. Select
all the files with control a and press delete. You'll get a message from
windows asking you if you want to delete them. Say yes. The only file in
there it won't delete is index.dat.

Alternatively, if you let me have your email address I'll send you the
programme I use to clear my cookies. My email address is
johncoley@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

                   John.

Christine.

Hi Andy, I take it he clears his cookies? If he doesn't over time that will
slow a system to a crawl.

                   John.

Thanks Barry - this was for a friend, his machine has been running very
slow, as in taking ages to open a web page, or even the control panel, this is why I thought the virtual memory thing might be the issue; I had him look
there, but although swap file by name wasn't there under
system\advance\performance, vertual memory was, and it had the number 575
against it, telling us we could extend it to a maximum of 776--not sure
about these numbers--anyway, it didn't help, perhaps is machine is
knackered! -

Andy,

You'll need to increase your Virtual Memory. In Control Panel. To set these
values, click System, click Advanced system settings , and then click
Settings under Performance. Typically 1.5 times your installed RAM is the
number most home-users need.

How much RAM do you have int hat machine? It may be an idea to upgrade.

Cheers,

Barry

Hi all - Can somebody give me some pointers regarding the swap file for an
XP machine?

A message pops ups saying something about shortage of virtual space or
memory, and if I recall correctly, this is something to do with the swap
file, but I don't know where to access it, or what to do with it <smile>

Help appreciated -

Andy
