Hi Kevin.
QuickMix is definitely your problem here. It is officially not supported on Windows 7. That is not to say do not use it, but don't expect the company to support you, because they simply won't, for the reason above. I suggest you uninstall QuickMix. This will resolve your sound card issues.

Hello listers,

I have a strange problem with my computer, I now and again and without
any warning will hear uac saying something like uac and then my computer
seems to go silent!!!

I have to get my daughter to tell me what is on screen, the computer is
locked then I unlock it in the normal way, but then it would seem that
the sound card is muted!! I have quick mix installed and loaded settings
that I had saved but it does not make any difference!!

I have to get her to unmute the sound can anyone give me any way to stop
this from happening? has anyone had this before? I am using window's-7
ultimate with all updates. with thanks.
