Subject: [access-uk] Re: Strange Amazon website query using Chrome
Yes Jackie. Jaws, Chrome and Windows 10 all up to date, I can replicate the
problem on my system. Use the search box on Amazon, Chrome crashes.
Click other links on Amazon, all is good. So yes, I think you can call it a
problem rather than an anomaly.
If you were using Firefox you wouldn’t be able to search with NVDA then switch
to Jaws to continue browsing - read on…
Only off the top of my head, here are areas where Jaws fails and NVDA doesn’t,
at least in my experience:
-If you load Firefox before loading Jaws, Jaws would not be able to access
Firefox. NVDA, no problems.
-After one of the latest updates of Firefox, Jaws stopped working with Firefox
for nearly a year. NVDA, no problems.
-Using Firefox, when I start playing a radio programme on BBC iPlayer, Jaws
stops responding if the focus is on that page. NVDA, no problems.
-Generally, NVDA can handle Microsoft Edge better than Jaws could if at all.
And on contacting S&S and FS, I am with you on this one. This is why I am
frustrated with FS.
Hope someone can come up with a proper solution to your Chrome problem.
Best regards,
Amro

I'm using the latest JAWS 2019 build on a Windows 10 machine. If I open
Chrome and type in something I wish to look for, let's say for argument that
it's a USB pen. When the list of results comes up, I can choose any links
relating to Amazon search results and go there no problem. But it's when I
go into Amazon itself, type in the same search criteria, and select
Electronics and Photo from the dropdown list. Then I'm thrown out to the
desktop, and returning to Chrome brings up those two buttons of restoring
pages etc. Martin is running the same configuration but isn't experiencing
this problem. If I use Internet Explorer or Firefox instead, I don't have
the problem. I don't get the problem with NVDA, but if I report it to S and
S, I'll guarantee getting the same 'Hmmm, this isn't happening here, never
heard of that one'.
I just thought it was worth checking with others to see if it's becoming a
common occurrence.

Hi Jackie,
I am not one for swearing but in this case I barely can hold back. FS is
really taking the biscuit of late. Well, I have just tried Amazon with Chrome
and Jaws the latest, and as I suspected it is Jaws what is causing the issue.
With NVDA everything works without a glitch over here, but with Jaws, Chrome
crashes every time like on your system.
I can tell you, the number of times when I must switch to NVDA to complete a
task successfully is getting more by the day. But I will stop here lest I
hijack the thread.
Try to switch either screen reader or browser for the task in hand and
hopefully you will have better luck. Let us know how it goes. I am sorry I
don't have an actual solution to offer.
Best regards,
Amro

Could anyone throw light on this anomaly for me please?** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:-
I'm using primarily Google Chrome on my Windows 10 PC. For the last
week or so, if I launch Amazon from my favourites and type in
something I'm looking for on that website, Chrome throws me out and
back to my desktop. When I then launch Chrome again to start the
whole process over, I am presented with two buttons, restore my
previous session, or open startup pages. This doesn't happen on any
other website, nor does it occur if I search for what I am looking
for in Google which then takes me to a specific Amazon page, it's only if I
search for the item in Amazon's search field that it happens.
I've tried uninstalling and installing Chrome again, but of course it
remembers everything. I've cleared my browsing history and even
performed a Disk Cleanup, to no avail.
Any suggestions appreciated.
