I didn't say on the container Steve I meant all the stuff that comes with it. when you first get the medication you should get a leaflet that tells you what it says I don't expect it every time you get the medication.

Probably because there's not enough room on the container to get it all in.
Braille is considerably bigger than print.

I find it so useful that my medication is labelled in braille, rather than
forever running to my husband to sort them out.
The more braille is used, then the better the argument for learning it. I
know there are gadgets like the Penfriend, but I find it so convenient just
to pick up a CD or a jar of herbs and   identify it, rather than having to
first go in search of a gadet.

Yes, but if braille labelling was commonplace it would enormously increase
the incentive for blind people to learn braille so there is a virtuous
circle there.

Also, "worth it" is an interesting phrase. I imagine many blind people
derive enormous benefit from the EU requirement to label medicines, not to
mention the spin-off in terms of raising the profile of the right to
accessible health information etc.
And if medicines, why not food and household products ...

Colin,

The answer of course, is market size.

Of all the blind people out there, I think some 4 percent or thereabouts
read Braille.

It simply wouldn't be worth it.

All the best

Steve

Greetings,

Bleach and the like bottles are mass-produced and the dye from which they
are cast probably has the word as part of the mould.  If they could put use
by date and the like, it would have to be changed for each run, hence cost.
But, of course, they have to change it for printing on the item so why not
incorporate Braille at the same time?

Of course, if the bar code can be read, I believe this usually incorporates
this kind of information, if I am wrong, sure some wise and knowledgable
person will put us right!

-
-Hi all.
-
-First off moderaters, I hope this is allowed on here, if not I do
-appologise.
-
-
-Something is really puzzling me and I don't know if many people have
-noticed this who are blind.
-
-
-Have you ever noticed when you or someone you know goes to the
-supermarket, if they pick up a bottle of bleach, any bottle no specific
-brand required.
-
-If you feel towards the bottom of the bottle, you'll notice it says that
-in contracted Braille! Bleach I mean.
-
-
-Well what's really puzzling me is if they can do this with Bleach and
-vertually all medication these days, what's stopping companies from -doing
this with Milk, Yoghurts and stuff like that!
-
-I mean take one of my bottles of Bleach I've got at the moment, the
-Braille at the bottom is really raised up clearly!
-
-So obviously they are using some kind of ingraiving tool to somehow
-ingraive this onto the bottle.
-
-
-Anyway just an observation.
-
-When I mentioned the Milk and things like that, I'm refurring to the date.
