[access-uk] Some questions about windows

Hi
My mum has two laptops, one xp and one windows 7, if she
plugs in her xp backup drive, it's a Seagate free agent 250
gb drive on her windows 7 pc, is it likely to cause her
problems if she puts it back on her xp machine? I have a
sneaky suspicion that it isn't even compatible with windows
7, it is about 2 years old, it works with vista apparently.
I'll have to check the specs.
The other question or problem, my mum is having problems
with her xp laptop, the pc is shutting down and when she
turns it back on again it is only going into dos mode and
the screen has the word tra tra in diagonal lines across the
screen, what could this be? The laptop is a satellite a60
pro, it is about 6 years old which is why we got her the new
laptop but she is transferring all her files over. The
screen has been changing colour over a period of time, it
has gone from the windows colour to shades of pink. I am
certain that the pc is on it's last legs.
