I second all the suggestions for more memory - for goodness sake, you
can get a Gb of RAM for most laptops and PCs for under £20 including
postage these days.

I wouldn't even dream of trying to run XP with under 1Gb of RAM.

Of course, that said, I'd ensure that virus checks have been done, but
in any case, isn't their sanity worth around £20?
