Hi Clive,

I don't think seeing or not seeing the legend is an issue to be honest. If
it doesn't change channel when you go to it, it's pretty obvious it's not
available.

All the best

Subject: [access-uk] Re: Sky Channel move

Hello all,

I found that 993 was unavailable too, and contacted the accessibility
helpline. They told me that, if I can put it this way, all of the
channel numbers formerly sitting between 971 and 994 have now 'moved 20
places up the charts, pop pickers. So 994 (BBC1 AD) has now become 954.
Be warned therefore that if you've pre-programmed anything to record
BBC1 974, you'll get channel 4 AD instead. They say the moves are an
attempt to do housekeeping, to put the channels into more logical
groups. I'd have thought it would have made sense to put the channels
together so that, for example, Challenge + 1 hour is one number higher
than Challenge bog standard version, so that it literally becomes
challenge + 1 = challenge + 1.

It's a pity they can't set up an accessibility news email list with
one-way traffic, where they can give their disabled customers a heads-up
of forthcoming changes which will affect AD channels, but they say they
have too many customers to do that. Is that real a problem if they
wouldn't need to send the update to each individual address, but instead
to encourage people to subscribe to a group like this one? After all
that's how the weekly news bulletins come out from, say, Radio 4 Extra.
At present, they say the onus is on the customer to keep re-visiting
www.sky.com/accessibility to check for latest news. Therefore, it's
inevitable that we'd find out by trying the number and nothing changing.
Sighted people see the legend: "Channel number not available".

Best,
Clive

Good one Nuttball, thanks for clarifying this as 993 didn't act for me
last night using just the original Sky box. I use the ITV London region
for AD.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Hi guys and gals.

I just received an update to my Sky Plus HD box and noticed that ITV
London if you are not in the London region has now been moved from
Channel 993, to 973. Please bear this in mind if you are a Sky Plus
customer and want to record ITV with audio description, since you can
only get that in the London region. 993 no longer exists as a channel.

Just thought I'd let you all know.

All the best
