John,

Jackie has quite a long article on her web site. Sorry, I don't have the URL to hand

Jackie, could you please write up your upgrade experience as someone without
sight upgrading from seven?  I think it would be good to read the steps,
what happens etc.  it might tempt people to go over too, or give them
reassurance that they are doing the right thing.

Thanks.

Hi John

I would say it is entirely up to you.  There is no urgent necessity to move
onto Windows 10 because it will be supported for a while, and you are not
missing out on anything spectacular by staying put.  On the other hand, if
you like to be up-to-date and are a little adventurous, then go for it.  I
upgraded from Windows 7, and I did it without sighted assistance in the
house.  I am using the current versions of all three screenreaders, and have
also started using Firefox to make some websites more accessible.  I haven’t
found any software I was previously using to be broken, except a free
recording program I use to record Skype interviews.  But I have remedied
this, thanks to help from Mo, by using something else he kindly sourced for
me.  I did have some issues with Outlook, but I can’t prove whether it had
anything to do with Windows 10 or my screenreaders.  I might just have been
unlucky that my profile got corrupted or something insanely annoying.
Either way, I got through a week of pure hell, and am now happily using
Office 2013 instead of 2016.

So if you feel in the mood, do it.  If you are comfortable with what you
have, then wait a while, it’s really as simple as that, (smile.)

Kind Regards,

Jackie Brown

Subject: [access-uk] Should I upgrade to Windows 10?

Hi All

I'm after some of your collective wisdom.

After Sight Village I now have the most recent version of Jaws and I have
NVDA too of course. I'm currently running windows 7 32 bit and would love to
know your opinion as to whether I should take the plunge and upgrade to
Win10. If you've already done it, what was the process like, did you lose
anything or was everything there when win10 came up? How does the process
work with speech? Are there any good resources online to guide you through
the process? Are you using any old software that refused to function under
the new operating system? etc.

I'm pretty nervous about the idea, but I'm looking forward to your input.

Thanks a lot for any help

Talk soon, John Ramm
