ah yes, maybe I could try that. I shall ask the BrailleNote list what serial to USB adaptors will work with the mPower. Thanks for the help, greatly appreciated.

Hello Chris,

I think it's hard to tell whether you'd damage the plug or socket as everyone is different; the only thing which can tell that is trial and error. But I am wondering whether there are such things as Serial to USB adapters? If so maybe that would be worth a try? Because I think USB is less prone to damage than Serial...

Hi all,
For my physical disabilities, is there a way for me to use serial connections without damagin the socket or plug in any way? For example, I like to use JAWS 8 with my BrailleNote mPower as a Braille display, via bluetooth. This works, but as with any bluetooth device the connection needs to be initiated manually, meaning that I won't be able to have Braille at startup. This isn't a problem, but it would be cool if I could. By the way, I don't have a serial port on my laptop, but I've heard of serial cards. I know they fit in a PCMCIA slot, which I believe I have on my laptop (will have to check that out), but how do they work, and would it benefit someone with physical disabilities?
Thanks in advance for sharing.
