  Hi Barry,

Yes. Did I not put it in? Sorry about that. CHKDSK is the command line
program, followed by a space, followed by a slash (/), for those without
  punctuation, followed by an F.

  Hope this is clear.

Is there supposed to be a space between the chkdsk and the /f?

    Hi Sandra,

    Do the following:-

    1. Go to the run menu, and instead of Scandisk, type the following line:-

    chkdsk /f

The /f is important, because it stands for Fix. The computer will say
something like "Current drive is locked" and will ask you if you want to
check the disk on the next startup.

    2. Answer with a Y and an enter to this question. The check disk program
will simply close. Now restart your computer. It will take longer to
start, because it will run a chkdsk before it restarts.

    That should do it.

    Hi all,
Can anyone tell me the XP equivalent of the scandisk in Windows 98? For
some reason, every time I try to go to the control panel, my machine
  crashes
and I thought I'd check it out to see if there were any errors.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Cheers,
    Sandra.
