Thanks for the suggestons and a bit of lively debate!

BlindSquare seems to be a location based information database and not an
actual journey planning gps app.

With TomTom at about £35 and Navigon at £55, is Navigon really worth the
almost double price tag?

Being able to create your own points of interest and hence plan journeys to
or from them is imperative, so rules out the RNIB app. I also want to have
one that is easily recognised by sighted friends who will have to look at
it.
So looks like the choice is farily narrow in reality.

Thanks again all,

Hi. I've tried both and BlindSquare is the app for me. I've saved so
many locations which have helped me and I've found that I don't really
have to utilise a third party navigation app like Apple Maps or Google
Maps allot of the time. This app is every bit as good as the Trekker
and is allot sharper. It's also helpful to get telephone numbers for
all the POIs as one can call and enquire about any of them. I like the
new feature where I can use BlindSquare with my Bluetooth Speaker
wrist band. I can get my location by pressing one button and
BlindSquare keeps me updated anyway. The wrist band speaker has meant
that I can keep my phone in my pocket and this is a good thing as it's
not exposed for opportunists. Just because we are VI doesn't mean we
won't get mugged.
