Hi Aedan,
I'm sorry but I've no idea if the app will work for you in Cork. But yes, it is 
posssible to use in a car as far as I am aware as I've done this myself but 
it's not ideal as directions are given in terms of the clockface rather than 
turn by turn along recognised roads and streets such as Google Maps would do. 
So I suggest it's best used for orientation only while walking.
