Hi George,

I certainly can't disagree with you there. The cost of Sagecover is
horrendous. I may have to go back to V9.0 if they don't do anything
<Smile>.

Just waiting for Ruth to contact me, as I have sent her an Email, and
perhaps we can discuss this a bit, and see what we can come up with.

Hi Steve,

Considering how much complaining there is about the cost of adaptive
software upgrades, SAGE 12 has to be a prime example of how it's done in the
commercial world. Exactly the same, and at twice the price!!

I took a look at the very short new feature list, and decided the money was
better invested in Foster's amber nectar and Silk Cut Silver. It's the same
result, money down the drain and up in smoke, but at least I can enjoy it my
way.

George.

Hi George,

You are right about accessibility issues. I have just upgraded to Line 50
V12, and it is worse than previous versions, primarily because of the way
the desktop is laid out, and it seems to leave all kinds of windows open
that obscure others. It is really weird. I am in the process of attempting
to write a Window-Eyes set file for it, but it is pretty hostile. Even the
menus are not standard. If you want proof of that, just load JAWS or
Window-Eyes, and run it, then access the menus. They are not read at all by
Window-Eyes, and JAWS does read them, but seems to put extraneous symbols by
each menu option, so for example, it will say "And File", as if there is an
ampersand before the word file, when you hit the alt key. JAWS does a
little better than Wineyes with the menu, but that's about it. It is much
the same throughout the rest of the program between the two screen readers.
But if you know the shortcuts, such as they are, you can get by, but only
just. For example, I know that if I hit Alt-O, then B, I can get into the
banking module, but if other windows are open, it won't always scroll down
the list of bank accounts. The worst culprit for that, is the customer
list. I can't seem to get it to scroll at all with the arrow keys any more,
as I used to with earlier versions.
For example, if you hit Alt-O, T, you will open the customer module, but
then you can't seem to scroll down with the arrows, nor can you hit the
first letter of the customer, as you used to be able to do with earlier
versions.

George, do you know if there is any way of completely hiding the desktop, so
that it looks like older versions of Sage?
Version 9 was the most accessible for me, then it got worse.

I hope some of this rambling makes sense, and helps someone.

Hi Kevin,

I suspect contacting Ruth Loebl at RNIB Birmingham might be a worthwhile
move. I don't have a direct line number but try the general information line
on 0845 766 9999.

We use SageLine 50 ourselves, from Order entry right through to Balance
Sheet, and keystroke operation is not one of it's strong points.

However, I understand Ruth has had some communication with SAGE, and it has
been suggested that the company has finally recognised they have serious
accessibility issues to be resolved.

George.
