I think that is great that your Mum taught you to write but I think that is acceptable for you and that too is great. The letter a as written in lower case does not describe how you write it nor does the letter A in capitals. I would best describe the letter A in capitals as slightly oblique lines converging at the top and spread out at the bottom, both lines in parallel and a horizontal bar two thirds of the way up. Now I know that if everyone got going here, we would all start describing the letters as they are in our heads or as we learned to write them so I am not wanting to start that or to disagree with you. I applaud any teacher and your Mum was an excellent one and took great interest in you. My Mum did it differently. She used the tops of bottles and we got down on the carpet the letters could be as big as I wanted them to be or as small, we also used match sticks.

When I was young I had a lot of trouble learning to write properly. Though I understood what the letters looked like. For the life of me, they didn't look like, when written, they did as they appeared in my head. So, my mother taught me to write within the cells of a Braille writing frame. She used the numbers of the dots to explain how a letter was to be written. For example, the letter a is dots 6, without lifting the pencil,go up to 4, then slide it over to 1, then down to 3, up to 2, and over to 5. That is the letter a. All the letters and numbers can be written this way. My bank accepts my signature written this way. In fact, everyone accepts my signature when written this way. Perhaps using this method you might be able to write a legible signature and nearly everything else. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ibrahim Gucukoglu" <ibrahim_gucukoglu@xxxxxxxx>

Hi Eleanor.

Precisely, some people can't do their signature very well, some have difficulty keeping it small enough and some people can't hold a pen, so this is where a signature stamp comes in very handy. All my wife has to do is place the stamp where she wants to sign and press a button.

All the best, Ibrahim.

I wonder would the signature guide help in this regard. At least someone can put it n the place where the signature goes. Trouble I find is making of keeping the signature small enough. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ibrahim Gucukoglu" <ibrahim_gucukoglu@xxxxxxxx>

Hi Richard.

Fair enough, sound advice but my wife's bank is happy to allow her to use her stamp, however I'm not privy to the importance of the documents she's allowed to sign with it as we keep our banking arrangements totally separate *smile*.

All the best and thanks again for your input.

As a solicitor, I wouldn't advise using a stamp for important docs. This is
because,
1. The risk of misuse by a third party is greater; and
2. even if banks and so on are prepared to accept use of a stamp, they
usually require you to give an indemnity - which would make you responsible
even if the stamp were used by a third party without your consent.

I think it's slightly different at work, where I used a stamp for signing
quite a lot of stuff, but I knew that I was not likely to incur any
liability by doing so.

Hi Richard.

Why not? My wife uses hers all the time for doing important banking forms, even for signing work related paperwork. Its your signature after all, the
stamp is custom made and can easily be refilled with ink.

Carol, Most stationery shops do them. OK for letters, but I shouldn't
use them for signing important docs.
