Yes Kevin, I think I did point out in my message which started this thread that the cassette deck in the Roberts isn't likely to stay a fixture, so to speak. That prompts me to wonder if Roberts couldn't do a re-jig and incorporate a USB stick player once the cassette deck's out of the way! I don't know about upgrading or swapping your present Wireless for the blind with one of these because for one thing the hire is usually done via a local authority or voluntary organisation. I presume the request might have to go through them, but then I don't know exactly how these things work now. Cheers, Ray.facility ----- Original Message ----- From: Kevin Lloyd Subject: [access-uk] Re: Roberts Radio Concerto DAB radio now available Hi Billy. Yes, the player has DAB, FM, CD, SD and cassette in it's current format. If you want a player with cassette though, you'll have to move fast because it's only the initial tranche of players that Roberts have been able to source cassette decks for and the following tranches will not have cassette decks in them. Local museum may be your best bet... Regards. Might sound like a silly question, but is this new Radio got DAB?, Dinky doo Billy ----- Original Message ----- From: Rays Home To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, June 10, 2008 1:00 PM Subject: [access-uk] Roberts Radio Concerto DAB radio now available This "do it all" ghetto blaster style radio has been talked about for something like three years now and you can buy it for £195.00. Is it worth it? It might seem like the Concerto does it all, but not quite. While it will play cassettes, as well as SD cards and Cds, it won't handle USB sticks, and some TN's are now using these. The cassette facility is included at the moment, but probably not for very long as it seems cassette mechanisms are increasingly hard to source. Does seem the Cd player remembers where you were on a CD - and it's claimed to be a proprietory Roberts feature, - whatever that means. I don't hear of any speech feedback in this set, just that its got "high contrast controls" and it's tactile. Forget about internet radio too - but we've been there before. You can get the Concerto for free, of course, on loan from Wireless for the Blind Fund, if you are registered, and over eight years old - (which I should think applies to everyone here, (smile).
