This was posted on another list, but thought it might be useful to a few as it was discussed recently in a thread about accessing these boxes. Jackie Cairns Sky to replace up to 90,000 Sky+ HD boxes One in 10 Sky+ HD customers to get a new box 19 February 2009 Sky is to replace up to 90,000 Sky+HD boxes following the discovery of a fault by the box manufacturer Pace. Sky added that the fault did not present a safety hazard and that the machines to be replaced were from an older batch of boxes supplied by digital box manufacturer Pace. The flaw is likely to have affected only a minority of the popular high definition PVRs. Pace had identified a flaw in its assembly process that, it said, might affect the long-term performance of some boxes. The flaw, which is not in later models, concerns the build quality and internal cabling. Customers will be unaware of any fault because it has yet to affect the performance of the boxes, but Sky has decided to replace them as a precautionary measure in case long term problems developed. The batch versions affected are 9F3001, 9F3002, 9F3003 and 9F3004. Customers who have affected boxes are being contacted by Sky to make arrangements for an engineer to install a free replacement. The new box will carry a new 12 month warranty and customers will get the added bonus of three months' free subscription to Sky's HD pack. Which? technology expert Dave Holes said: 'We welcome the efforts made by Sky to head off the problem.' To replace all the boxes should take about three months, according to Sky. http://www.which.co.uk/news/2009/02-feb/sky-to-replace-up-to-90000-sky-h d-boxes-168918.jsp <http://www.which.co.uk/news/2009/02-feb/sky-to-replace-up-to-90000-sky- hd-boxes-168918.jsp> ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
