Jackie, I've had mine about 34 years and I completely agree!
Cheers

Hi David, Tony et al

I've had my Perkins Brailler for 42 years, and she's still going strong. I call her the iron lady!!

I've seen the new-style Perkins and, I have to say, don't like it. That's just my view, but it won't last the distance, it isn't as robust, and it looks very different.

Hi David & Alison,

I definitely feel that it is worth going down the repair route first if that's what one wants to do.

I have a Perkins for more years than I care to remember and it had it's fair share of bumps and thuds too over the years and recently when I thought that it was time for a replacement, seeing prices for new ones, decided to have it repaired yet again and it is now more perrfect than it ever was.

The prison service where I live have the repair franchise here.

Sounds like RNIB is the place for you to try first to see about a repair for yours.

Tony

Hi,
The new lighter Perkins isn't available outside the US. We are expecting to launch it in Europe during March. We don't have final price information yet, but are anticipating it will be slightly higher than the existing model.

We have lots of forty plus year old machines back for service and repair and they are very rarely inoperable. Kevin Ground in our Service and Repair Team, email kevin.ground@xxxxxxxxxxx would be happy to advise.

Regards
Alison

Subject: [access-uk] Perkins Brailler

Hi all,

My Perkins, which I have had for over forty years, keeps jamming and may
well be near to retirement. I just looked at the RNIB online shop and they
sell the Perkins for around £500 which appears to be the original model.
can anyone tell me who supplies the new lighter Perkins and does anyone have
any idea of the price, or experience of using the machine.

David
