I'll have a look at it tomorrow, and if I'm still stuck may get back to you.
I think that once I set my keyboard as you instruct it may be ok.
I've tried recording the way it is set up now, and just get total silence
when I playback. I've therefore no idea if anything has recorded or not.

I have the feeling control with f9 and control with f8 are not set in GW
V5.70 and it does not matter if you are using W8 or W7 or XP Home.
When I installed GW V5.70 over V5.69, I already had modified my keyboard
file to make the controls different.
New file is now f9 alone, this opens a new file and immediately you are
recording. The settings are whatever you last used.
In consequence, I have modified my keyboard to use the qwerty numbers 1 for
record, 2 for pause recording and 3 for stop recording. F9 performs the
function to create and start recording as intended. Also, you will find the
play3 function (f4) is not set this you need do and I have set it in my
keyboard.
I think the best thing to do, is for me to copy my keyboard file into this
email, so save it into a file called:
GoldWaveKeyboard.txt
which is what GW looks for, then to install the keyboard, you need go to
options, then keyboard, enter and go to load button, press space bar not
enter, you are now in the standard windows dialogue so find the file and
enter on the name - job completed.
To be safe, I will privately send an email with the keyboard file attached.
