I think some books are better than others in this respect. However, there is no
dount that the Audible quality is better.

RNIB have compressed the files even more than they do on a CD. This is
bizarre since most of us have Broadband now. If you listen to one of their
talking books through headphones, the artifacts from compressing down to

Audible is still my preferred medium, especially as they allow Enhanced
Format and even stereo for some productions.
Come on RNIB, you can do better than that.

I have always had to pay for my own talking books, and also my bookstream
subscription and now the overdrive service.
Good luck to those who get their subscriptions paid for them by Local
Authorities, but I do not see why it should be the responsibility of RNIB to
arrange this. There is nothing to stop individuals taking up the matter
with their own Authorities. They might have more luck than RNIB are having.
I do find this post code lottery system rather strange though. Surely the
National Government should sponsor library services for the blind in the
same way they do for public libraries for the sighted.
And now I will retire gracefully and browse overdrive for some more books.
