End of the month/early October. We’re fine tuning, which is a nice way of
saying bug fixing! We will email RNIB Overdrive customers directly and post on
various forums etc. You will have to re-register. You won’t be surprised to
hear that we have a lot of customers registered for RNIB Overdrive that don’t
use it, so we’d prefer you to register again so we don’t carry over out of date
customer details. A fresh start. We will be running RNIB Overdrive alongside
the new online reading service until at least the end of the year to give
everyone time to make the switch.

Alison

As far as I understand, the new platform should be available as from the end of
this month and the impression I had from the interview is that we will be
notified.

Thanks Alison,
When do you think this new platform available? Do we need to re-register with
the new platform when it is available?
Thank you

Steve is right. It’s Overdrive requirements. We’d rather not re-process the
files to deliver inferior quality! It’s one of the reasons we’re not adding
too many new books to RNIB Overdrive. The new platform will deliver the same
DAISY files you receive on CD and USB and some of the publishers who won’t let
us share their books on RNIB Overdrive have already said they’re happy for them
to be made available on the new online reading service. Hooray! Smart speaker
support will definitely come.

Actually, it isn’t Simon. Overdrive only accept files of a certain size and
compression ratio. So this isn’t RNIB’s fault I believe. It’s the Overdrive
system.
All the best

not sure what version of overdrive you are using then, as have found it very
easy to use this end.
I will say the sound could be better, but that is down to RNIB compressing the
files too much, not overdrive itself.

Overdrive is so fiddly and I never use it since the introduction of Easyreader.
One of the comments I heard was that it is even envisaged that people might be
able to read their RNIB Talking Books via their smart speakers. For people who
aren’t very tech savvy, this would be a great way for them to access their
books.

We are supposed to be seeing a new online library delivery system within the
next few weeks. I can't say I will mourn the end of Overdrive.

Hi all,
I am just wondering if RNIB is still adding new books on the Overdrive? I can
only find few books added on the site recently.
Can anyone recommend me some other alternative libraries that I can get audio
books?
Thank you
